Monty Don's Adriatic Gardens

Monty Don returns to BBC2 for more of his travels in Monty Don’s Adriatic Gardens which was first shown on BBC2 on Friday 07 January 2022.

This 3 part programme is a welcome addition to the Winter gardening programme schedule for a bit of armchair gardening.

‘Don’ning his linen suit, jaunty scarf and very battered Panama hat, Monty travels the Adriatic Coast and Islands to visit their most spectacular gardens.

Monty Don

Episode 1 Monty is in Venice to discover it’s hidden gardens.

Travelling by barge Monty goes from garden to garden along the Grand Canal including one built on a rubbish dump, goes wine tasting from a city vineyard and finds a secret passage in a public garden.

Episode 2 Monty is in Trieste, Croatia and the island of Lopud.

Monty visits a 150 year old restored garden of a Royal Plant Collector, sees 200 varieties of Irises and has an amazing journey through stunning scenery and wildflowers.

Episode 3 Monty is in Corfu, Athens and Hydra

In the final episode Monty enjoys the Olive Trees and meets with Gerald Durrell’s Widow for a mountain wildflower walk.

In Athens he visits where the study of Botany began, visits the Royal Gardens and some modern gardens before finally doing some gardening himself on the Greek Island of Hydra

This beautiful filmed series has us transported to the warm climate and stunning gardens and plants of the Adriatic coast and Islands.

Warm weather, warm sea and at times a very warm looking Monty!

What more do we need to get us through a Winter evening being inspired to try some Adriatic ideas in our own gardens or just enjoy some armchair gardening.
