 Advolly Richmond

Advolly Richmond is a Garden Historian, Writer and Television Presenter on Gardeners' World.

Advolly was born in Zimbabwe and comes from a family of keen gardeners but it was not until her 30's she had a change of career to Garden History.

Advolly has a MA in in Garden History from Bristol University and has a RHS level 3 in Practical Horticulture. 


From little acorns

Advolly garden first appeared on Gardeners' World in June 2019 and she presented a feature on the programme the same year.

In 2021 she featured in Gardeners world 2021 with two features on the history of the Lawn.

Advolly also appears on Radio 4 Gardeners questions as well as her own Podcast.

She has a Snowdrop Galanthus Elwisii 'Advolly Richmond' named after her.

Advolly Richmond is a Patron of Silent Space which is a charity that supports places to silently reflect and escape to benefit your health and wellbeing in parks and outdoor spaces.


On her Website Advolly Richmond offers Garden History Courses as well as a range of Garden History talks.

Advolly Richmond in the 2026 New Years Honours List was awarded a Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to equality, diversity and inclusion in horticulture.

Advolly lives with her husband in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
