Gardeners' World 2021 Episode 5 16 April 2021

Monty Don welcomes us to Gardeners' World 2021 Episode 5 and he is busy filling up the bare spaces left in the Jewel and Cottage garden left by the removal of the Box Hedges.

Now is the time to move Herbaceous plants and he is transplanting a Echinops Ritro, which grows to 3 foot tall with spiky flowers, from another part of the garden.

He wants it to follow on after the Roses have stopped flowering and he tips it gently out of the pot and it has a strong root system.

The Beechgrowers first appeared on Beechgrove 2021 in Episode 3 on 15 April 2021.

From right across Scotland the 6 lots of keen gardeners will be filming their own experiences of gardening in varying climates and growing conditions.

From a flat in Edinburgh right up to the Northern most coast of mainland Scotland, from the Highlands to the Borders.

We are welcomed to Episode 3 of Beechgrove 2021 by Carole Baxter and Mairi Rattray and the garden is covered in a thick layer of snow.

Carole says a few days ago she was cutting the lawn and buying suntan lotion and Mairi says last week they were busy weeding the garden this week Snow arrived and put a stop to that.

A cold wind has made it feel colder than the -2 it has been and some of the plants have suffered like the poor deflated Daffodils that are laying in the snow.

The snow has been removed from the Topiary also.

We are welcomed to Episode 2 of Beechgrove 2021 by Carole Baxter along with Mairi Rattray, Kirsty Wilson and some very noisy birds who are full of the joy of Spring.

Carol says is great to have Kirsty back in the Beechgrove garden and that she is loving her new allotment, Kirsty has been busy painting her new greenhouse, green!

Mairi is asked about how the weather has been at Beechgrove after Carole telling her they had a big hailstorm at home. 

She says its been dry, cold and windy so they have had to water some of the shrubs that are in containers particularly the Camelia.

She pleasantly surprised they are still alive after they were just planted in the ground and left to their own devices so they will not flower at all this year.

Beechgrove 2021 returns for its first episode and Carole Baxter, Brian Cunningham and the new presenter and Head Gardener Mairi Rattray welcomes us back to Beechgrove filmed from the Beechgrove Gardens.

Carole says its great to be back at Beechgrove Gardens but they are practising all the social distancing and Covid guidelines, so no welcome back hugs. 

Carol and Brian are introducing each presenter and segment this week.
