Flo Headlam

Flo Headlam is a Horticulturist, Garden Designer and TV Presenter on Garden Rescue.


Flo parents came from the Caribbean and gave her an early insight into gardening as they grew their own vegetables 

She had her own garden and enjoyed all aspects of gardening including the digging which she still finds therapeutic. 


Flo career path has been varied and she started by studying and  in 1994 obtained a BA in African Studies from the London School of Oriental and African Studies.


Flo became a professional Dancer, she then spent  over 20 years working in the charity sector including work for Comic Relief.


A change of career saw Flo study general horticultural studies  and in 2012 she started work in the Gardening Industry before going on to obtain  a Diploma in Garden design at Capel Manor College, Regents Park, London in 2017.


From little acorns

Flo Headlam first appeared as a TV Gardening Presenter for Gardeners' World in 2017 and appeared on the programme until 2019 and was the Programmes first Black Presenter.


In April 2022 Flo Headlam was announced as one of the 4 equity ambassadors for The British Association of Landscape Industries to promote positive change and improve accessibility for everyone into the landscape industry.


Flo Headlam joins the Garden Design Team on Garden Rescue in Series 7 which was first shown on Monday 09 May 2022 on BBC1 in an afternoon slot.

Flo first appearance is in Episode 6 which was shown on Monday 16 May 2022 designing a Gothic woodland garden.


She is joining long time Designer Charlie Dimmock who has been on the programme since 2016 and Designer Lee Burkhill aka the Ninja Gardener who joined Garden Rescue in 2021 for Series 6.

The last Designer is also new for this series and it is Chris Hull.


The previous Garden Designers Arit Anderson and The Rich Brothers Harry & David both left in Series 6.


In 2025 a new Garden Designer joined the team for Garden Rescue Series 10 and Amelia Bouquet proved very popular with the viewers.

Amelia proved to be popular not only for her Garden Design ideas but also as the series progressed it became more obvious she was very pregnant.


Garden Rescue Series 11 in 2026 will see the biggest change to the format ever when 4 new designers join the programme to directly compete against the existing Garden Design Team.

The 4 new Garden Designers are  Diarmuid Gavin, Frances Tophill, Joe Swift and Sue Kent.        
                                
Flo Headlam writes for the Gardeners' World Magazine as well as gives talks.


Flo is passionate about the benefits of gardening for everyone for their both physical and mental health and the importance of Community Gardens.


Flo lives in South London and has 2 daughters
